You remember Dishwalla, right? If you listened to the
radio, hell, if you listened to music in the Nineties, their massive hit
“Counting Blue Cars” was an inescapable slice of pop rock bliss, one that still
holds water to this day. Well, while it’s not 1996 anymore, Dishwalla are back
with
Juniper Road, their first full
length in 12 years and first with new lead singer Justin Fox, and clearly these
guys have not forgotten their craft. “Give Me a Sign” is alt-rock ballad
perfection as is “Miles Away,” a yearning love letter to someone who’s, well,
miles away. Fox displays his radio friendly vocal range on “Here For You” (and
just why he was chosen to succeed original vocalist JR Richards), “Now I Know”
and “Not Alone” are time capsules of mid-90’s pop rock precision and Dishwalla sends
Juniper Road out on a high note with potent
closer “Waiting On You, Love.” 12 years on the shelf and a new lead singer
would spell doom for most bands, but
Juniper
Road might just be the start of a second act for Dishwalla and it might be
time for all of us to fall in love again.
