The Clocks Have
Ticked Too Long
By harnessing the spirited passion and exuberance of
turn-of-the-century pop-punkers like the Starting Line and Yellowcard, the
thunder-from-down-under Avastera (they’re actually from Perth, Australia), are
primed to make a big debut stateside with their latest release, the Clocks Have Ticked Too Long. But
this EP is not all simple pomp and circumstance, as when this band decides to
bring the heavy, and mind you, they can, because when vocalists Mike Lang and
Chris Hanssen decide to turn the volume to 11, that’s when shit gets real (“As
the Tables Turn,” “This Beautiful Nightmare”). The Clocks Have Ticked Too Long is an album that succeeds on all
levels, whether it’s pouring its heart out via moments of charming vulnerability
(“December Sun”) or showcasing a penchant for engaging melody with a flair for
the grandiose (“Ms. Conception”). The
Clocks Have Ticked Too Long is not only one of the finest debut releases
you’ll hear this year, it’s one of the best debuts in recent memory. And no,
you didn’t read that wrong, this EP is Avastera’s debut, which is scary – something you’ll understand a little better after you
give the Clocks Have Ticked Too Long
a spin. But this EP is like Lays chips, you can’t listen just once.
